MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. HONORED MILITARY AT HOME FOOTBALL GAME

(Courtesy Photos) It was a night to honor those who served in the different branches of the U.S. Military as the Martin Luther King Jr. Lions hosted Locust Grove at Godfrey Stadium on September 1 of the 2023 football season. The Army National Guard supplied jerseys for the Lions, a tunnel to run through and had give aways in the stadium as part of the support for the night honoring those who are serving or served in the military. King recruiting officer, Sergeant Jolandra Purdie, helped to supply the jerseys s for the game. Fans who had a current or retired military ID were granted free admission to the game and King staff and fans were encouraged to wear camo to show their support. Many of the fans did just that with camo pants and hats as the Lions took on Locust Grove. The school and the Army National Guard team up through out the year. The Guard sponsors a Coach of the Month Award at the school recognizing coaches for their hard work and recently sponsored shirts for the tennis team for the upcoming spring season. The Lions came up short in the game falling 24-18 as the clock ran out as they were driving for the potential game-winning score.
